Our Story
The group commenced in October 1998 the meeting place is at the Willows Historical Area we meet at DUNVEGAN COTTAGE a small blue stone cottage.
The group was formed by a lady by the name of Maree Evans sadly Maree has passed on, she was very enthusiastic about getting a group going where women could sit and do their patchwork have company and share their knowledge with each other this worked as we are still going 15 years later the membership has increased we are around the 60 members of those 60 we still have a number of ladies that were there at the beginning which is great.
The group is very active in the community we support the Shire of Melton Art Day Out is where a lot of net working can be done with other community groups from the area .
We supply quilts to Sunshine Hospital and local nursing homes, we also make a quilt and this is donated to a community group to be used by them for a raffle to help raise funds for their group.
We support breast cancer research and also support the local Combined Churches Caring Food Bank
We hold a Quilt In annually. this is generally the 2nd Saturday in July we have a Guest Speaker and also local quilting shops for the retail therapy.
Exhibition is every 2nd year this has a challenge attached to it and we do this with our sister group that is stationed in Switzerland the challenge is a different theme each time and we have it in turns to pick the topic this creates a lot of interest among the members.
We have workshops for the members and non members also some of the tutors we have had in the past are, Eileen Campbell, Gloria Loughman, Mariya Waters, Dijanne Cevaal just to name a few.
We hold an annual retreat in August .
Christmas time we have a Christmas Dinner and we also remember those not a fortunate as ourselves and donate to Combined Churches Caring the local food bank.
This is just a brief outline of the group.
